New Year, New You Assessment

Work provided a free assessment for me today to help jump start the 2011 year season.  Setting some tough goals for 2011 to continue my working to being a healthy man at age 50.  Assessment went well and kinda got me motivated again to keep track of what I am eating and my activities.  Installed an application on the iPod to help track the food intake called "lose it".   Target intake is currently set at about 2000 calories per day that is 500 calories under my assessed weight and height.  Time to get busy before my golf field trip.

60 days on the Wii

Christmas was good to us this year.  Josh purchased a Wii for everyone to have fun with this year.  His job and drive to be successful has provided him with some disposible income.  Thanks Josh!   Linda & I ran out after Christmas to purchase the Wii Fit Board and Wii Fit Plus.  It motived me to get up everyday to check my progess.  The Wii graphically show me as Obese, ouch!   An all time high of 227 was not good, yuck.  Today, I prepare to get ready for a golf trip with friends in less than 20 days.  After that purchase on December 30, 2009, it has been 60 consequetive days for fun workouts and weigh-ins.  I will continue to check my weight daily to keep an eye on it.  I will be out of town for 5 day that will break my consequetive day streak.  Nonetheless, I continue to move the graph line down under that Obese line, now just plain overweight (210).  Watching what I eat; walking about one hour a day; and playing some of the fun games is keeping me motived so far.  Thanks Josh and Linda for all your support!   Love you.

stress less in 2010

attended a stress less class at work that talked about resiliency... finishing the year by starting to practice. Number 1 thing to work on is taking those negative thoughts and turn them into positive. Taking in each and everyone moment by living for the moment in the moment. Reflecting on the good times and practice daily or as much as possible to catch those negative thoughts and rephrase into a positive thought.

Holidays coming soon

with the holidays coming soon, making it tough to watch that weigh again. Since back injury and now my wifes neck injury, exercise has not been at the top of the priority. Therefore, it is going to take some serious focus to get on track to move oneself out of the chair and on treadmill to walk for a very long time. With another golf trip on the schedule, type to get butt in gear.

P.S. appears that work as blocked ability to blog and keep current, so will need to update in the evening instead of mornings.

Golf season ending

It is Novemeber already! Golfed on Friday perhaps for the final round of the season...what a beautiful day almost 70 degrees. Just can't seem to get the pounds to drop below that 215 mark. Started with pedometer again to help keep a close eye on number of steps.

Irish Course

Yesterday, I was able to play the Irish Course for the first time. What a fun golf course! I really enjoyed the round with the Keough brothers.

Regarding the contest, I am going the wrong way right now. Ouch might cost me some money. Time for a change. I talk to a guy at work today...he has me motivated again. At least for a while...perhaps over the next couple weeks we can start to drop again.

One more this year...

Yes, we are going to have one more contest this year (2008). I have won all contests so far. Not sure how close the competition has been. Hope Mom gives it a try this go round. Since winning, I have been going North that is why another contest is needed. Not to say working at home may have some impact in behavior as I continue to site a my desk much longer than when I a am at work.

New start weight for this contest as of 9/22/2008 is 217.6. We will conclude the contest before Mom and Dad go to AZ. December 15th will be the final weigh-in, yes likely after Christmas at the Collins' which might be that Saturday or Sunday.

Good luck Mom, perhaps this will be the push I need to get to 200!

Summer Contest Concludes

We have finished the summer weight lose challenge. Not as good as hoped for me this period. Have not heard how Mom did. Likely she has been more active than me this round, so might have to return that twenty.

Finish weight was 210.3 this round. Lose 7 pounds which was 3.2% of my body weight.

I will continue to work hard to get down to that 200 mark, hopefully before Thanksgiving, so I can enjoy the Turkey dinner.

Near end of contest...

The contest for this summer is nearing the end as agreed upon. See previous post entry...

Let the contest begin. Beat mom on the winter contest. She wants a summer rematch, so I will attempt to win again. Contest end date is August 30. See you at the end.

With the end nearing, I better get out and walk those extra steps. Too bad, I just spent the weekend at Mom's. She bulked me up with lots of good food that I could not pass up. (Thanks Mom for keeping me feed.)

I will post my final weight at the end of the day on August 31 which is Sunday. That will give us one more day. I feel $20 richer already...step...step...step.

Golfing and walking help

Golfing 4 days in row help on the weight challenges. However, the back has been acting up a little with all the walking. So, took a cart this week. Keeping the push on until end of this month, trying to win that second bet with Mom.

Just got my cholesterol checked this week at work. 176
Blood pressure check too: 110/84

No steps working at home

Today, I worked most of the day at home. Already 3pm and I have less than 1000 steps. Look for some weight increases in the next day of so. Ouch! Gotta getta walkin...

Golf adds steps

Have been tracking steps again this week. Seems that I average about 4500-5000 without walking outside work. Sitting at the desk, walking to meetings; walking to lunch; walking for a cup of coffee. Does have impact on weight as I don't seem to lose anything, good news is that I don't appear to be increasing as long as I watch what I eat.

Golfed on Saturday in the wind. About 15000 steps walking the golf course at Broadlands. Seems that I don't lose the next day after walking many steps, it appears the benefits are the day after the next. As long as I am watching what I eat.

Not much walking last couple days, so I would expect to increase again. We will have to see what the number is later this week.

Stinks to be sick...

Wow, you lose some traction when you get sick. Was out of work for a day, and still have chest congestion. It has been about 2 weeks since that last post on the health front. Steps have been low, food intake has been high. Energy low..trying to get to bed early.

Now...it is March madness, so more food and drink while sitting watching games. Go Badgers! Nice run for Golden Eagles this year, I pray all those juniors come back and make a run for the gold in 2009.

Step tracking update:

Leap Day

An extra day to help lose some weight to make target 210 was not enough. It has amazed me on the number of steps and the relationship to increase in weight or lose in weight. Leap Day was a fish fry at Hideaway with a friend from work. Saturday was a tough day watching Marquette and the Bucks lose by 2 points. Sunday was a day to get to the dome to hit some golf balls, along with a movie with Linda. Watched Fool's Gold, fun treasure hunt movie to watch. Sunday steps continue to be hard to come by. Begged to go to Long John Silvers for clams and shrimp, I remember now why we don't go there any more. It has been since living in Janesville. Watched Bucks get beat bad tonight Larry Krystkowiak is not able to pull the players egos together.

Food intake:
2/29 - coffee, orange juice, french toast, canadian bacon, potato soup, veggie soup, fish and Fries, rye bread, beer, bit-o-honey

Short entry after a long dry spell...getting back to the Badger game.

Step into weekend

Started with a 17000 step Friday to jump start the weekend. Linda is out of town, so I will have plenty of time to walk today and Sunday. Watch a little of the Match play and maybe some basketball later. The Friday night fish fry put a pound on the weight on Friday. It is amazing at what you eat and how it adds the pounds. Foods that burn quickly and foods that seem to collect on the ribs. By continuing to track the food eaten has helped me with how much, I need to do some more analyzing on what kinds of foods are helping and what foods are hurting. Soda seems to be a big one. Linda watched Opera and heard that no soda for 1 year equals about 5-7 pounds.

Food tracking:
2/22 - 90 cal bar, coffee, Italian beef, cooked carrots, fish, fries, rye bread, soda, orange, banana

Step tracking:
2/22 17700

Forgot Pedometer

Forgot pedometer today at work...how many steps did I walk. I will try to guess based on activities today. Continued watching Match play with Steve making a long putt to win. Total steps after work 9500 for a total for the day of 15000.

Food intake:
2/21 - banana, chicken noodle soup, banana cream pie, coffee, chinese spicy crispy chicken, wine, orange

Step tracking:
2/21 15000
